Regenerative Wellness Centers taps into your body’s natural healing ability to repair damage to bones, muscles, cartilage, tendons, and ligaments without the need for surgery. Our proprietary, research-driven techniques allow us to concentrate your cells and to place them in the precise area of your injury to promote healing and to achieve optimal outcomes.
Regenerative Treatments work by allowing the body to do what it is naturally designed to do: heal itself. Treatments utilize a combination of stem cells, cell-based growth factors, and bioactive cells known as platelet-rich plasma, which allow practitioners to harness the body’s natural healing abilities. This combination therapy approach prompts the regeneration of damaged tissues, allowing the body to heal the source of the pain, rather than simply masking it. Due to the minimally-invasive nature of these treatments, growing numbers of chronic pain sufferers have begun to seek out this form therapy.
At 79, Sal Carullo is still a very active man. As a prominent Merritt Island resident, he has been heavily involved in his community for decades. Once the owner of the Merritt Island Nursery, Sal now manages the facility, overseeing numerous employees and day-to-day operations.
In addition to his role at the nursery, Sal has a penchant for restoring classic cars, and even volunteers as a cook for community barbecues geared toward raising funds for local sports teams and events. A year ago, however, he wasn’t doing any of those things.
After undergoing major orthopedic surgeries on his hip and femur, Sal was left with what he jokingly refers to as “a bunch of hardware” in his right leg. There, an L-shaped steel segment extends from his hip to his knee, providing stability for his leg as he walks. But even with the new “hardware,” Sal was left feeling like he might never get back to doing the things he loves.
“I couldn’t walk,” he admits. “If I was standing still, my legs would almost fall asleep on me. Even with a cane, my hip and knee were in so much pain, I was forced to sit down after just a few minutes,” he laments. “I couldn’t drive — all I could do was try to grin and bear it; I won’t take any pain pills.”
In an attempt to find relief, Sal turned to hyaluronic acid and cortisone injections. “Cortisone did nothing for me,” he recalls. “The other injections would help for about 11 months, and then I could start to feel the effects wearing off. I didn’t want to rely on that for the rest of my life.”
Along with regular injections, Sal also underwent intensive physical therapy for months. While the exercises did elicit some improvement, they still didn’t allow him to drive or to walk for any length of time. Upon realizing he had few options left, he began searching for another solution. That’s when he learned about Regenerative Medicine.
After just a few weeks of treatment, Sal began to feel a difference. “I could feel something was different from the get-go,” he recalls. “I could feel something changing.” Soon, his legs were feeling so much better, he began walking without his cane. “I threw it in the backseat of my truck, just in case,” he jokes. “I did it to make my wife happy.”
His wife, Sue, also noticed the changes in her husband. “After about 3 months, I saw his walking had improved. He was on the go more,” she recalls. “The results I’ve seen with him — you wouldn’t believe it. It really gave him more of his life back. I’m not a caregiver anymore, and for a good 9 months, that what I was. Our life was put on hold.”
Today, Sal is once again enjoying the activities he loves, recently barbecuing for well over 200 community members. “ I was on my feet from 8:30 in the morning until about two in the afternoon,” he declares. “I went from not being able to walk, to standing up there with the best of them.”
“I’d say I’m about 95 percent now,” he estimates. “I can even walk on uneven grass now — I couldn’t do that before. These treatments have helped me tremendously. I would recommend this treatment to anyone.”
